You Can Change Whenever You Want To

You are free to change whenever you want.

As much as we feel that we are tied to our identities and will always be who we are, that isn’t entirely true.

We have our core characteristics, but we are also open to changing and being changed by the world as we experience it.

And in many ways, through intentional awareness, we get to choose what we carry with us and what we decide to let go of.

Because who we are sometimes isn’t who we have always been or who we feel aligned with being, but actually who we have had to become based on our experiences with other people and the world.

In those instances, when we are self-critical and feel shame about our behaviours and choices, it’s important to understand that it is not always an outcome of our identity or something that is stuck with us for the rest of our lives.

It’s actually acting out of character that causes these negative, self-critical feelings since they feel out of place in our psyche.

We are capable of making intentional choices about who we are and how we act.

In any moment, you can decide to let go and start again.

As many times as you need to.

Until one day, you realise you have slowly weaned out the behaviours and reactions that don’t and won’t align with the person you wish to be.

This also teaches you compassion for others.

Understanding that, as humans, we are vastly complex.

Some are just holding on to ideologies that do nothing but harm them.

There is always a choice.

Especially in relation to you and your autonomy.
