Sit With / Alchemize Your Feelings

If you’re a highly sensitive person, it’s easy to feel like your emotions are a burden.

It’s as though they’re constantly overwhelming you, taking over your thoughts, and consuming your energy. It can feel like there’s no space to breathe, and the emotions are simply too much to handle. But what if these feelings are actually a source of power? They don’t have to be a negative, all consuming force in your life, and you don’t need to suppress them or let them control you.

Emotions are energy in motion, and when you learn to channel that energy, it can be one of the most transformative forces you have.

Emotions are Energy

It’s easy to think of intense emotions, whether it’s sadness, anger, anxiety, or fear, as something you just need to get rid of, something that weighs you down. But they are energy, constantly moving and shifting. The only time they become heavy is when we don’t know how to direct them or how to release them. The power in feelings is in learning how to channel them / transforming them into something that works for you.

1) Sit And Really Feel Your Emotions

One of the most effective ways to handle your feelings is by sitting with them. I know it sounds difficult, especially when those feelings are intense and uncomfortable. But sitting with your emotions means you’re giving them space to be felt. Direct your attention away from pushing them away, overthinking them, or ignoring them.

Simply locate them in the physical body, focus on on being with them and letting them transform, change and move.

The key here is to focus on how these feelings show up in your body. You may notice tension in your chest, tightness in your stomach, or a lump in your throat. Wherever you feel it, that’s where you want to direct your attention. Sit in that space, breathe deeply into it, and just feel it. No need to narrate or add to the story in your mind. You don’t need to fix anything. You’re just allowing the feeling to exist, flow and fluctuate in its purest form.

As you sit with the feeling and breathe into that area, notice how it starts to shift. Emotions are fluid - they don’t stay the same forever. If you stay with it long enough, if you breathe and let go of the need to control it, you’ll feel that emotion transform. It won’t have as much power over you anymore. In fact, you’ll feel lighter, like that emotion has moved through you and left. This is how you release it, and the results are immediate. You’ll feel the change, and you’ll know that you’ve done it.

2) Turning Energy Into Creation

Another powerful way to handle your emotions is by alchemizing them - turning that emotional energy into something creative or productive. Instead of letting your feelings sit and simmer, you can channel them outward. Take that energy and put it into a workout, into creating something, or even into writing or painting. Use that intense emotion to fuel something with purpose and intention.

When you’re feeling overwhelmed by emotions, using physical movement is one of the best ways to get that energy out. A good workout, a dance, or any kind of physical movement helps release that pent-up feeling and turns it into something positive. This could mean running, weightlifting, or yoga - whatever feels right to you. The focus here is not on the movement itself but on using it to move your emotional energy, turning it into something physical and tangible.

You can also channel your emotions into creating something. Take that anger or frustration and direct it into your art, whether that’s drawing, painting, or writing. When you put your emotions into a creative outlet, you’re not only releasing them but you’re also creating something beautiful or meaningful from them, that's how most artists create their most memorable work. What was once heavy and overwhelming becomes an act of expression. This act of creation turns those feelings into something that serves you and the world around you.

Harnessing Your Power

The more intense your emotions, the more powerful you are. As a highly sensitive person, you have an enormous capacity for energy. It’s easy to feel like this energy is too much to handle, but it’s actually a vital source of strength. Emotions are energy, and when you learn how to harness that energy, you have the power to create change, both internally and externally.

The real overwhelm is not the emotions themselves, but not knowing how to work with them.

When you don’t know how to channel or release them, they can become stagnant in your body, leading to stress, anxiety, or even physical illness. But when you learn how to express them - whether by sitting with them and releasing them or by using them creatively - you can transform them into a powerful force for good.

Sometimes sadness just needs to be felt and released.

Experimenting with Alchemy

There’s no right or wrong way to process your feelings; what matters is finding what works for you. You might find that some emotions are best handled by sitting with them, while others are best expressed through creative action or physical movement.

Experiment with these different forms of emotional alchemy and see what resonates most with you.

Don’t be afraid of your emotions. Learn to channel them and use them as a source of strength. You have the ability to transform your emotional energy into something positive, something beautiful, and something powerful. You just need to know how to harness it.
